چکیده
The Tinto and Odiel rivers (SW Spain) drain from a vast sulfide mining district join at 20-km-long estuary that enters the Atlantic Ocean. In this work, contents of rare earth elements (REE) fractionation in Neogene–Holocene sediment cores La Fontanilla cove (Tinto estuary) were studied. sediments collected depth 18 m different distances recent river flow analyzed for new information on temporal development REE load column. Results show ∑ is higher finer during periods activity prehistoric to times. Marine influence appears increase light (LREE) relative heavy (HREE). patterns these estuarine convex curvatures MREE LREE HREE, indicating presence acid-mixing processes between fluvial waters affected by acid mine drainage (AMD) seawater, as well precipitation poorly crystalline mineral phases. Significant positive Eu anomalies found ebb-tide channels marsh deposits, which can reflect mineralogical composition and/or strong localized salinity gradient combined with organic matter degradation. Sedimentological characteristics deposits appear play main role accumulation REE.

Integrated remote sensing and GIS techniques for biogeochemical characterization of the Tinto-Odiel estuary system, SW Spain
The Tinto-Odiel estuary area in SW Spain presents a high concentration of industrial, agricultural and mining activities that seriously affect water quality, producing significant concentrations in trace metals and other contaminant elements. Previous studies have highlighted the important environmental effect of these contaminated waters discharged into the Gulf of Cadiz, contributing in a mar...

The mineralogy and geochemistry of Paleocene shales and interbedded siltstones in the southwestern of Ahar town (NW Iran) were studied by optical microscopy, XRD, SEM, XRF, and ICP-MS techniques. The mineralogical composition, mainly characterized by calcite, quartz, feldspar, dolomite, muscovite, magnesiohornblende, chlorite, illite, montmorionite, palygorskite, and koninckite, suggests relati...
متن کاملThe Distribution of Trace Metal Pollutants within Intertidal Sediments of the Tamar Estuary, Sw England
Concentrations of trace metal pollutants are frequently reported from intertidal sediments (e.g. Bryan and Langston, 1992; French, 1993; Lindsay and Bell, 1997; Pirrie et al., 1997, 2000) and as these areas are often sites of intense human and animal activity, the level of contaminants are of particular interest with respect to environmental health (Rae, 1997; Clark, 1997). When trace metals ar...
متن کاملREE behavior during evaporative precipitation in a severely affected-AMD creek (SW Spain)
The Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB) covers a vast part of the SW of Spain and Portugal. This region is rich in sulfide deposits which have been exploited intensively. As a consequence, there is a large number of sources of acid mine drainages, characterized by very extreme pH conditions and high pollution load. Waters affected by acid mine drainage (AMD) can contain high concentrations of rare earth ...
متن کاملStable isotope geochemistry of the Ulldemolins Pb-Zn-Cu deposit (SW Catalonian Coastal Ranges, Spain)
The Pb-Zn-Cu deposit of Ulldemolins occurs within the Carboniferous sedimentary series of the southernmost Catalonian Coastal Ranges. It consists of sulphide-bearing calc-silicate assemblages, with epidote, Ca-amphiboles and Ca-garnet, which develop selectively along a dolomicrite bed near the contact with a granite porphyry. Two mineralisation styles can be differentiated: a) banded and b) irr...
